Carolina moved from Chile to Queensland and is studying a Teaching English Speakers of Other Language course with the Cairns College of English and Business. She has previously completed an Advanced Diploma of English and Business at the Cairns College. Having studied at various locations around the world, Carolina is well placed to represent international students on emerging issues, identify gaps in education and enhance student experience.
Carolinas heavy involvement with community groups allows her to engage with students both on and off campus, providing an excellent opportunity to help students adapt to the Queensland community and culture. She has assisted many other students and friends to overcome issues relating to finance, mental health, homesickness and accommodation.
One of the issues Carolina would like to address is the financial burden placed on international students and the difficulties around affordability. She would like to see more emphasis placed on motivating students to embed themselves into the community to seek casual jobs and to be given a platform to share opportunities and experiences.
The Great Barrier Reef and warm weather have attracted Carolina to Cairns. She advises students to engage with the community to meet people, and to buy themselves a bicycle so they can explore the amazing rainforest, beaches and waterfalls within close range.
