Jermaine is from Zimbabwe and is studying a Bachelor of Laws at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. He is extremely passionate about advocating for the rights and wellbeing of international students and is well aware of some of the issues international students face, having experienced such issues himself.
Jermaine has been a member of the Queensland International Student Advisory Panel (QISAP) previously and during this time he presented at the International Education and Training summit, and at the Australian International Education Conference. This year he would like the opportunity to advocate for students with mental health issues and looks forward to continuing to raise awareness about this topic to help reduce the stigma.
As a former Gold Coast Mayor’s Student Ambassador, 2018 QISAP member, current Study Gold Coast Student Advisory Board Member and Litigation intern, Jermaine is well experienced to continue his role in providing advice on policy and programs, and voicing his opinion on new initiatives.
The similarities in climate to his home country is one of the many reasons Jermaine decided to study in Queensland, and he loves that the Gold Coast is a dynamic and vibrant city. Jermaine’s advice to other students is to be open to new experiences and don’t be afraid to make mistakes.
