Course description

The Diploma of Horticulture, you learn how to establish and manage a horticultural business or project. Depending on your chosen outcome, your study will develop a range of skills which include: preparing estimates; quotes and tenders; managing plant health programs; developing production plans and manage staff and services. The Diploma of Horticulture graduates could go for supervisory positions in the Horticulture industries such as nurseries, country clubs and resorts, council services, and visitor attractions such as theme parks. The Diploma contains 10 units: AHCBUS501 Manage staff AHCCHM501 Develop and manage a chemical use strategy AHCMOM502 Implement a machinery management system AHCWHS501 Manage work health and safety processes AHCPCM501 Diagnose plant health problems AHCPGD501 Manage plant cultural practices AHCPHT502 Develop a horticultural production plan AHCPHT503 Manage a controlled growing environment AHCWAT502 Manage water systems AHCWRK502 Collect and manage data RPL: Students will have an option to study through RPL which involves considering a student's past training, formal and informal and/or experience can be assessed and matched against the units of competency within this course. The course will be delivered in 20 weeks over 6 months. It will comprise 20 hours a week (3 days) of face to face delivery and 4 hours a week of distance study. There will be holiday breaks every 10 weeks for 2 weeks. You can expect to take 18 months to 2 years to complete this course.
