Course description

The Certificate IV in Horticulture allows you to develop post-trade skills and knowledge across a broad coverage of the industry prior to undertaking higher roles in the industry. You learn how to control small horticultural projects, improve soils, manage equipment and machinery, implement pest management and chemical use strategies, manage water systems and horticultural production, recruit and induct staff and maintain work health and safety. Your studies include subjects from the Diploma of Horticulture which can provide entrée to supervisory positions in the Horticulture industries such as nurseries, country clubs and resorts, council services, and visitor attractions such as theme parks. Course Structure AHC40616, Certificate IV in Horticulture requires the successful completion of 12 Units: The units listed below have been selected by the college following consultation with several commercial nurseries engaged in the production of commercial crops. The college was advised to offer the following as they provided a solid foundation for future managerial skills. AHCCHM501 Develop and manage a chemical use strategy AHCMOM502 Implement a machinery management system AHCNSY402 Plan a propagation program AHCORG403 Manage organic soil improvement AHCPCM401 Recommend plants and cultural practices AHCPHT502 Develop a horticultural production plan AHCPMG409 Implement a pest management plan AHCSOL401 Sample soils and interprets results AHCWAT502 Manage water systems AHCWHS401 Maintain work health and safety processes BSBHRM405 Support the recruitment, selection and induction of staff PSPPM402B Manage simple projects RPL: Students will have an option to study through RPL which involves considering a student's past training, formal and informal and/or experience can be assessed and matched against the units of competency within this course. The course will be delivered in 26 weeks over 6 months. It will comprise 20 hours a week (3 days) of face to face delivery and 4 hours a week of distance study. There will be holiday breaks every 10 weeks for 2 weeks. You can expect to take 12 - 18 months to complete this course.
