The Bachelor of Popular Music is a student entrepreneur driven program which provides pathways for students to pursue careers in a wide range of areas, from independent musician, to commercial songwriter and composer for moving image, to artist and events manager. Students can choose from three majors in the program - Performance; Music, Sound and Vision; and Music Industry. Performance major You will develop your own original music through innovative creative practices. In collaboration with other students, you will spend a considerable amount of time working in the recording studios to create, rehearse, record and produce your songs. You will develop skills in audio engineering and production and take courses about creative music technologies, song writing, and the music business. Music, Sound and Vision major Writing for moving image represents a sizeable portion of the music industry as a whole. The goal of this major is to provide in-depth, focused tuition in all relevant areas related to this field. You will study composition for film and television, writing to briefs, music for gaming, sound design, Foley, location recording, and custom sound creation. Music Industry major You will graduate with in depth knowledge of the popular music industry in its various manifestations, and be proficient in a range of music industry functions including artist management, event management, marketing, social media design, small business development and management both in general and specific to the music industry. External music industry internships allow you to specialize, while two internal special projects allow for real world experience in a supervised setting. My career opportunities Depending on which major you choose to follow, graduates of the Bachelor of Popular Music will find employment opportunities in large music industry organisations and the entertainment industry as well as the education sector. Our graduates will pursue careers including independent popular music artists, events and artist managers, composers for film, TV and games, audio engineers and producers, and music teachers.
