Master of Philosophy (MPhil) (7500) in Mechanical and Mining Engineering

The University of Queensland Herston Campus

Course description

The aim of the Master of Philosophy (MPhil) program is to provide research training in a manner that fosters the development of independent research skills in candidates. On completion of the period of research, the student should possess the ability to formulate a significant problem, mastery of appropriate conceptual and methodological frameworks, and the capacity for articulate and critical analysis. The MPhil thesis provides evidence of significant research as the culmination of 1.5-2 years full-time equivalent study and research training. Materials Engineering research at UQ is concentrated on: Advanced Forming Casting Corrosion Joining Mechanical Properties of Light Alloy Casting Low Dimensional Semiconductor Nanostructures for Energy Applications Medical Device Development Polymers Surface Engineering and Physical Metallurgy Mechanical Engineering at UQ conducts research in a number of areas including: Combustion and Multi scale Modelling Fibre-Reinforced Composites Geothermal Energy Hypersonics Machining Nano mechanics and Nano manufacturing Non-destructive testing and evaluation Railway Engineering and Technology Smart Machines Mining engineering Research in the areas of: Energy, Safety and Environment Mining Geo mechanics Mining Methods and Equipment Mine Planning
