I’m Juan and I am a Colombian student living in Noosa for a month. My homestay family doesn't use internet Wi-Fi so I had to find other ways to stay connected. It's something that can happen to you too in this city. For those people who live in other countries and have internet everywhere, let me tell you that Noosa is a very peaceful and calm city where the Wi-Fi is not the most important thing anymore and a surf lesson, walk in the national park, trip to Fraser Island or a meal at a seafood restaurant are the best things you can do. BUT for the others who cannot live without internet, here are my 5 tips to survive during your stay at Noosa. Enjoy!
1. Get a Data Plan
A data plan in Australia is very convenient not only because it’s necessary to have internet on our mobile devices but also because it’s very hard to find places where we can use the Wi-Fi for free and because this place is such a huge continent. To be honest, the prices of the internet services are quite expensive. The prices of a Prepaid 2GB data plan with unlimited calls and text to any company is around 30 AUD a month which is a very good option if you are gonna stay more than a month. Follow my advice, get the plan ASAP. I got Lebara but another popular choice for international students is AMAYSIM
2. At Your School
If you are not gonna spend 30 dollars a month or you just don’t use the internet that much, you can also use the Wi-Fi Network at your school. I’m studying at Lexis English and here is where I'm actually writing this article. But come on, get a phone line, it’s useful to get connected with your friends and let everybody contact you in any case.
3. Internet Cafe - PeterPans
Close to the Noosa Junction, is a place called “Peterpans Cafe” where you can look for some tourist activities, things to do, ads looking for a jobs and most importantly: computers. This fantastic place also has a Wi-Fi that works 24 hours a day so don't get surprised at midnight when you see some people in front of the door using the Wi-Fi. You can join them! BUT best of all, don't worry about the price. Peterpans is always for free. Even if you need to use a computer!
4. The Coffee Shop
This is a simple one and if you like to watch people walking on the street, you will find this option very familiar. Coffee shops and any restaurant you go to has a Wi-Fi network. Go for it, ask for the password and spend all your day using free Wi-Fi...well I should say for the price of a beer. Welcome to the international student life!
5. The Bus Stop
If you don’t like any of the options above, I hope this one makes you feel excited to come to Noosa. Every bus stop has a Wi-Fi Network in this city and without any registration and always 24 hours a day you can access it. It has very good speed and helps you when the school is closed and you don't want to spend your money in the restaurant to get free Wi-Fi, this is the best way to be connected with your friends back home.
