When Tsukushi first landed in Queensland, her biggest fear wasn’t the language or the classes. “I was worried about being alone when I came to Australia,” she admits. “But I made some friends and I’m feeling much better.”
Now studying English on the Sunshine Coast, she’s found a rhythm in Queensland life: beach visits, weekend family calls and a school environment that’s helped her grow in confidence – one conversation at a time.
At school, the welcoming atmosphere has made all the difference to the international student experience. “The other students are really kind to us,” Tsukushi says, “and so are the teachers. The teachers are very friendly.”
That support has paid off. Since arriving, Tsukushi’s English has noticeably improved – and so has her comfort in speaking up.
“It’s relaxed, but there are lots of opportunities.”
Before he ever stepped into a classroom or picked up a hammer in Queensland, Australia, Renato Hyoda was working a very different job as a firefighter in Japan. But after stepping away from that path, a friend gave him a nudge: “You should go study abroad.”
Now based on the Sunshine Coast, Renato is studying carpentry and building something new – from skills and friendships to a future he can shape himself.
Queensland’s lifestyle agreed with him immediately. “I prefer more countryside,” he shares. “Life in Queensland is more easy-going.”
He’d heard about the sunny weather and friendly communities before arriving, but it still took him by surprise. “The coast is close. The people are really nice,” he says.
