After seven years working in automotive R&D in Thailand, Siri Rattanaamporn was ready for a change. “I thought, it’s time to explore something else,” she says. That decision led her from the bustle of Bangkok to the quieter surrounds of Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia, where she’s now completing a doctoral degree (PhD) in Engineering.

It wasn’t a step she took lightly. “I was worried if I could adapt to the new environment in Australia,” she admits. “I worked for seven years, and coming back to an academic journey again caused me some concern.” But with support from her university – and a scholarship for residential college living – Siri found her feet.
